MeterSahi? ("we", "us", "the app", "the site") helps you check whether an auto-rickshaw or taxi fare matches the official tariff for your city. This policy explains what information the website (metersahi.in) and the Android app collect, why, and how it's handled. The Android app loads metersahi.in directly, so everything below applies equally to both.
Information We Collect
We collect the following, depending on how you use the app:
- Location (optional): if you tap "use my current location," your device's GPS coordinates are requested through your browser's or Android's standard permission prompt, used once to pre-fill the pickup address, and never stored on our servers. You can deny this and type your pickup address manually instead - the app works identically either way.
- Trip details you enter: pickup and drop-off addresses (as free text), city, vehicle type (auto/taxi), whether it's a day or night ride, and luggage count. These are logged each time you press "Calculate correct fare," along with the calculated distance and fare, so we can understand usage patterns and improve the service.
- Vehicle reports (optional): if you choose to report a vehicle, we store the number plate, the amount you say you were charged, and the associated trip details from your calculation.
- Feedback (optional): if you respond to the feedback prompt, we store your star rating and any text you write, along with which city you were using.
- Standard technical data: like most websites and apps, our analytics and infrastructure providers (see below) automatically log things like IP address, device/browser type, and general usage statistics as part of normal operation.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, or any government ID. There is no account system, so there's nothing tied to a persistent personal identity beyond what's described above.
How We Use This Information
- To calculate the official fare for your route and show you whether a driver's charge matches it.
- To understand which cities and features are actually used, so we know where to focus effort.
- To build a record of vehicle reports, which may help identify patterns of overcharging.
- To improve the app based on the feedback you choose to share.
We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not use it for advertising or targeting.
Third-Party Services We Use
MeterSahi? relies on a small number of external services to function:
- Google Maps Platform (Maps, Places, Routes, Geocoding APIs) - to turn your typed addresses into an actual route, distance, and travel time. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy.
- Supabase - our database provider, where trip calculations, vehicle reports, and feedback are stored.
- Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager - standard, aggregate website analytics (page views, general usage trends).
- Google Fonts and a CDN (jsDelivr) - used to load the site's typography and icons; these may log basic request data (like IP address) as part of normal content delivery, independent of us.
Android App Permissions
The MeterSahi? Android app requests exactly two categories of permission, and nothing else:
- Internet access - required for the app to function at all, since it loads live content and calculates fares over the network.
- Location (fine and coarse) - used only for the optional "use my current location" feature described above. If you deny this permission, the app continues to work normally; you'll just enter your pickup address by typing instead.
The app does not request access to your camera, microphone, contacts, storage, SMS, or call history, because it has no features that need any of them.
Data Retention
Trip calculations, vehicle reports, and feedback are retained to help us understand usage and improve the service over time. Since there's no account system, we have no way to look up or delete a specific individual's past submissions on request in the way a logged-in service could - if you've submitted something you'd like removed, contact us (below) with as much detail as you can provide (approximate time, city, plate number, etc.) and we'll do our best to locate and remove it.
Children's Privacy
MeterSahi? is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone we know to be under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date above.
